Certified ESG Manager CEM® is a trademarked designation granted by International Chamber of Sustainable Development (ICSD)*. This designation can be used after your name and aims to equip students with practical knowledge and techniques to manage real-life ESG challenges, improve ESG performance and analyse sustainable investment. CEM® holders are able to articulate solutions to ESG issues and provide ESG consultancy services.

Certified ESG Manager CEM® is a progressive course for Certified ESG Planner CEP®. It provides a more practical skill set for participants to manage day-to-day ESG risks and opportunities with the elements of governance and management.

This course emphasizes the practical side of applying ESG knowledge. For example, more in-depth techniques in ESG reporting, especially the climate reporting, will be taught. The corporate governance and its relationship with ESG will also be taught, which is not covered at the CEP® programme.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants shall have completed one of the programs listed below:

  • Certified ESG Planner CEP® programmes or
  • The Hong Kong Management Association ESG programmes or
  • ESG programmes which is offered by Hong Kong tertiary education institutions or
  • ESG Programmes for professional qualification or
  • ESG Programmes registered under Pilot Green and Sustainable Finance Capacity Building Support Scheme (GSF)

* Applicants shall provide the required academic qualification documents (refer to the entry requirements above) after reserving their seat.

STRUCTURE AND REQUIREMENT OF CEM®

  1. Attend 5 modules:
    1. Governance for business and ESG
    2. Practical skills for ESG reporting (I)
    3. Practical skills for ESG reporting (II)
    4. ESG investment analysis
    5. Contemporary issues in sustainability and ESG
  2. Participants must complete Certified ESG Planner CEP® programmes or HKMA ESG programmes or other ESG programmes which is offered by Hong Kong tertiary education institutions or programmes for professional qualification or ESG programmes registered under GSF scheme.
  3. Pass an open-book exam (1 hour, Multiple choice questions)

Module 1 Governance for business and ESG

  • Corporate governance and risk management

  • Governance for ESG
  • Best practices of corporate governance
  • Case studies

Module 2 Practical skills for ESG reporting (I)

  • Overview the steps of preparing the first ESG report
  • Calculation of GHGs emissions and other environmental KPI
  • Insights on reporting social KPIs
  • Applying ISSB IFRS S1 and S2 frameworks
  • TCFD and Climate reporting in action

Module 3 Practical skills for ESG reporting (II)

  • Practical steps of conducting stakeholder engagement
  • Materiality analysis for important ESG issues
  • Drills on technical issues of ESG reporting
  • Learning from the best cases in the market
  • Future development of ESG reporting

Module 4 ESG investment analysis

  • Qualitative and quantitative approaches to integrating ESG into investment
  • Interpret a company’s disclosure on ESG topics
  • ESG analysis and integration across different asset classes
  • Evaluation of different types of ESG analysis – Critics of ESG investment

Module 5 Contemporary issues in sustainability and ESG

  • Selected current hot topic(s) for in-depth discussion and criticism
  • Core topics may include Sustainability/ESG leadership models with supportive skills
  • Other relevant topics, subject to the latest market development, may include greenwashing, anti-ESG, sustainable business models, sustainable investment, carbon trading, green technology, etc.

AWARD AND CERTIFIED ESG MANAGER CEM®

Participants who have maintained a minimum of 80% attendance of total lecture hours and passed the exam will be awarded a “Advanced Certificate in ESG Practice” by The Hong Kong Management Association Global Centre for ESG Education and Research.

After completing the programme successful, participants will also obtain a one-year ICSD membership with certificate and authorised to use “Certified ESG Manager CEM®” granted by International Chamber of Sustainable Development (ICSD).
