Environmental experts, sustainability advocates, policymakers and business leaders gathered today at the third edition of the HKMA/BOC Life Hong Kong Sustainability Summit, which was held on 25 October 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Summit aims to address the pressing challenges facing our planet and accelerate the transition to a sustainable future. Organized by the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA), the Summit was launched in 2022, alongside the industry renowned Hong Kong Sustainability Award, fostering an invaluable platform for Sustainability practitioners to benchmark best practices in the industry and exchange knowledge. Business with Purpose “Pledge in Action” Ceremony was held in conjunction with the HKMA/BOC Life Hong Kong Sustainability Summit for the second time.
In the Welcoming Address, Mr Peter Wong, Chairman, Advisory Board, HKMA Global Centre for ESG Education and Research; and Managing Director, The Hong Kong and China Gas Co Ltd said: “As we gather today, it is essential to acknowledge that “purpose” and “sustainability” are foundational pillars for organizations of all sizes and industries. These concepts have evolved significantly over time, going beyond mere compliance.” He continued: “It is encouraging to witness a growing number of organizations integrating purpose into their core strategies, demonstrating a commitment to making a difference. Today, we are pleased to welcome an additional six organizations among our 40 signatories who have pledged to advance PURPOSE in business.”
Heavy weight speaker, Mr Wilson Tang, Chief Executive, BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited, delivered his opening keynote and exemplified how sustainability and purpose not only lead to organizational success but also create a meaningful impact on the community.
Afterwards, Ms Titania Woo, Executive Director, The Hong Kong Management Association, gave her vote of thanks and business with Purpose “Pledge in Action” Ceremony.
Subsequently, Mr Francis Ngai, Founder and CEO of Social Ventures Hong Kong, presented the finding of the 2024 Business with Purpose Survey, which continues to build on prior observations, tracking the evolving social and business landscape in Hong Kong.
