PROGRAMME LEADER
Herbert Chia JP 車品覺is Honorary Chairman and Advisor of Hong Kong Data Club (HKDC). He has over ten years of practical experience in big data strategy and application with unique insights into the future trends of e-commerce. He joined Alibaba in 2010 and served as Vice President of Alibaba (China) Co., Ltd. and President of Data Committee until 2016. During his tenure, the data team of Alibaba was awarded “China Excellent IT Team” in the “Excellent Chinese CIO” selection, 2014. He currently serves as a Senior Advisor of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence (North APAC Region). Herbert was rated as “China Top 10 Most Influential Big Data Entrepreneurs” by the State Information Center of China in 2017 and also garnered Outstanding Achievement Award in 2021 AI Golden Goose Awards of China. He is well-recognized for his contributions in bringing China’s big data industry to new levels and promoting Hong Kong as the big data pilot city in the Greater Bay Area and The Belt and Road. He is currently a member of Big Data Advisory Group of Beijing Government.
Herbert is a member of Information Technology Services Committee of Hospital Authority of Hong Kong; Board of Director of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation; Governance Committee of Hong Kong Growth Portfolio, Education Commission; and Digital Economy Development Committee. He is Adjunct Professor of School of Management of Zhejiang University and Alibaba Business School, and Adjunct Associate Professor of The University of Hong Kong Institute for China Business. He is the author of several best selling books, including The Big Data and The Nature of Big Data. He holds two EMBA degrees from Tsinghua University and INSEAD.
