Overview
This programme will give you a glimpse of what it’s like to be a veterinarian. You will have a chance to talk to veterinarians and find out about related careers.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the programme, you will:
- Understand various veterinary degrees, including HK, UK and Australia: their differences and applicability to Hong Kong
- Understand career opportunities in the veterinary industry
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a veterinarian

Day 1: Introduction to Veterinary Profession and Studying Veterinary Science in Australia
- Introduction to the veterinary industry
- Duties and responsibilities of a veterinarian
- Career opportunities with a veterinary degree and its applications in Hong Kong
- Pathways to becoming a veterinarian in Australia and sharing experiences of studying there
- Life as an international student in Australia
- Differences between veterinary life in Australia and Hong Kong
Day 2: Studying Veterinary Science in Hong Kong
- Pathways to becoming a veterinarian in Hong Kong and sharing experiences of studying there
- How to prepare for and handle interviews
- Recognition of veterinary licenses obtained in Hong Kong
Day 3: Let’s Intern Together!
- Daily workflow in veterinary work
- How to assist with physical examinations of patients?
- How to perform CPR in emergency situations?
Day 4: Studying Veterinary Science in the UK and Surgical Workshop (Part 1)
- Pathways to becoming a veterinarian in the UK and sharing experiences of studying there
- Life as an international student in the UK
- Differences between veterinary life in the UK and Hong Kong
- Operating room etiquette and practicum (techniques for scrubbing in, wearing surgical attire)
Day 5: Becoming a Surgeon
- Surgical workshop: suturing techniques for patients
- Summary and certificate presentation.
