Herbert Chia MH, JP 車品覺 is Honorary Chairman and Advisor of Hong Kong Data Club (HKDC). He has over 15 years of practical experience in big data strategy and application with unique insights into the future trends of e-commerce. He joined Alibaba in 2010 as Vice President of Alibaba (China) Co., Ltd. and President of Data Committee until 2016. During his tenure, the data team of Alibaba was awarded “China Excellent IT Team” in the “Excellent Chinese CIO” selection, 2014. Herbert was rated as “China Top 10 Most Influential Big Data Entrepreneurs” by the State Information Center of China in 2017 and also garnered Outstanding Achievement Award in 2021 AI Golden Goose Awards of China. He served as a member of Big Data Advisory Group of Beijing Government and is well recognized for his contributions in bringing China’s big data industry to new levels and promoting Hong Kong as the big data pilot city in the Greater Bay Area and The Belt and Road. Herbert is currently a Senior Advisor of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Hong Kong & Macau and serving as Director of Hong Kong Genome Institute, member of Information Technology Services Committee of Hospital Authority and Education Commission.

He is the Adjunct Associate Professor of The University of Hong Kong (Institute for China Business), Adjunct Professor of School of Management of Zhejiang University and Alibaba Business School. He holds two EMBA degrees from Tsinghua University and INSEAD. In addition, he is the author of several best-selling books, including AI for All: Practical Guide to Human–AI Collaboration, The Big Data and The Nature of Big Data.

The course has been included in the list of registered public courses under the New Industrialisation and Technology Training Programme. NITTP aims at subsidising local companies on a 1:1 matching basis (up to 50% of the actual approved course fee) to train their staff in advanced technologies, especially those related to “New Industrialisation”. The maximum annual funding is HK$250,000 for each eligible company. Eligible company must submit an application (Form 2) via the NITTP online system (https://nittp.vtc.edu.hk/rttp/login) at least 5 weeks before the course commencement. Upon successful completion of the programme(minimum 80% attendance), submit your reimbursement claim (Form 3A and Form 4) within 2 months to receive your subsidy.
