The Hong Kong Management Association Global Innovation Day Kick-Off Ceremony cum Innovation Summit was held successfully at the HKMA South Seas Centre on Monday, 21 October 2024. During the event, the finalists of the HKMA/HKT Global Innovation Award 2024/25 of all three categories, namely the Large Organizations, SMEs and Rising Stars categories, were announced. These finalists will compete in the 2nd HKMA Global Innovation Day on 23 January 2025 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The first HKMA Global Innovation Day held in 2023 was a huge success attracting over 1,400 executives, innovators, investors and policy makers.
The HKMA Global Innovation Day is an exciting full-day event which combines the Final Judging of the Award, the Innovation Summit, exhibition zones, the Award Presentation Ceremony, and plenty of networking opportunities such as coffee breaks, Collaborator Luncheon and the Celebration Party. The second edition of HKMA Global Innovation Day will feature an expanded exhibition area, not only will it feature the SMEs and Rising Stars zones, but also will include new thematic zones with a focus on Sustainability, Fintech and Social Impact. The HKMA will also collaborate with different organizations and innovators in showcasing the latest trends of innovation through thematic concurrent sessions. Another new element is the launch of the brand new “Innovators’ Choice Award”, a new initiative designed to recognize the most innovative initiatives presented at the event, which will be determined by votes from onsite audience.
The Association is honored to have Ir Tony Wong, Commissioner for Digital Policy of the HKSAR Government as the Guest of Honour, to officiate the Kick-off Ceremony cum Innovation Summit together with Mr S K Cheong, Deputy Chairman of HKMA and Ir Sunny Lee, BBS, JP, Chairman, Organizing Committee, HKMA/HKT Global Innovation Award and Chairman, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI).
“As delivered by the Chief Executive The Hon John Lee Ka-chiu in his third Policy Address, Hong Kong is striving to become an international innovation and technology (I&T) centre by promoting the upgrading and transformation of traditional industries while actively nurturing emerging ones. The HKMA is an Association dedicated to promoting management excellence and business innovation, the Association is eager to support this important initiative of the government to foster the sustainable growth of our economy,” said Mr S K Cheong, Deputy Chairman of HKMA.
The HKMA/HKT Global Innovation Award celebrates and recognizes innovative initiatives from Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas with outstanding achievements in five key innovation areas: Product & Service Innovation, Process Innovation, Business Model Innovation, Platform Innovation and Social Impact Innovation.
The Innovation Summit was held right after the Kick-off Ceremony, beginning with the Thematic Speech delivered by Mr Andy Wong, Head of Innovation & Technology, Invest Hong Kong. Subsequently, a chit-chat session was held. Moderated by Ir Sunny Lee, BBS, JP, the panelists, including Ir Tony Wong JP ,Commissioner for Digital Policy, HKSARG, Mr Andy Wong, Head of Innovation & Technology, Invest Hong Kong and Mr Chris Au Young, General Manager, Innovation and Data Insights, Airport Authority, Hong Kong, shared their insights on Outlook of the Digital Policy in Hong Kong.
Afterwards, a Panel Discussion on Global Innovation Ecosystems was held. The discussion was moderated by Mr Steve Ng, Managing Director, Commercial Group of HKT, with Ms Karena Belin, CEO & Co-Founder of Whub and Co-founder and COO/CFO of AngelHub; Ms Liu Bing, Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner, Australian Consulate-General in Hong Kong and Macau and Mr Michael Yue, Google Managing Director and General Manager, Sales and Operations of Google Hong Kong as the panelists.
