believes people are the key to drive DBS moving towards the next horizon. Hence, it is essential to implement Transformational Leadership to DBS leaders
at all levels, equipping them with the essential skills and mindset to inspire, mobilize and empower our employees during this journey. As a learning
organization, DBS also empowers employees to take charge of their personal growth with the DBS Growth & Development Model which serves as the
backbone for the Transformational Leadership Programme.
Design and Implementation
DBS Transformational Leadership Programme is a multi-year campaign to provide holistic support to the DBS leaders. The key objective of
Transformational Leadership Programme is to build Great Leaders, Great Teams and Great Culture in DBS. The programme consists of a series of content
which are designed to suit the needs of DBS leaders at different levels. Building Great Managers is the foundation of Transformational Leadership
Programme for all DBS managers. It serves as a framework that defines a manager’s role and also the soft skills, such as Growth Mindset, Coaching and
Feedback skills, which are the keys for managers to execute the 6 roles defined for “DBS Manager”.
Making Great Decisions and T-Sprints are other interventions under the Programme which are designed to cultivate decision making and leadership skills
for senior managers. Making Great Decisions aimed to equip our senior managers with structured decision-making framework and tools, leadership and
behavioural factors and cross-functional exposure through DBS case studies. T-Sprints refer to intact leadership team workshops curated to shift team
effectiveness, transform individual leadership effectiveness and develop transformational leadership capabilities.
Measurement and Outcomes
DBS Transformational Leadership Programme has been launched since 2019 and gained full support from all participants from top management to
people managers. Building Great Managers, as the pioneer programme under the series, have galvanised all the managers across the markets and
recorded 100% attendance. Besides, over 80% of targeted managers have completed Making Great Decisions within 6 months since its launch in mid-
2020. Positive feedback has been received from post-training survey as these programmes have brought practical methods and new ideas to the
managers on their role. According to the annual employee survey, the overall employee engagement score in Hong Kong kept strengthening since 2019,
and recorded continuous improvement in “Manager Effectiveness” measurement.
DBS Transformational Leadership Programme is not simply a training series, but it is a cultural change initiative involving every employee in the bank
where new people development standard for DBS is set. Throughout this multi-year programme, DBS managers are equipped with different skillsets,
including but not limited to Growth Mindset, Psychological Safety, Feedback, Courageous Conversation and Collaboration. These helps making
fundamental changes to how our people behave and work in the bank which is an important pillar to support DBS in reaching the next horizon.

a Better World. The programme was well-designed which covered important elements of soft skills and mindset change to suit the needs of corporate
growth. From leaders to teams to culture, the programme closely aligned with the business goals and objectives.
Good employee engagement and strong improvement in leadership effectiveness was recorded. Overall, it was a holistic and forward-looking
programme which successfully facilitated the creation of talent pool for the succession of leaders in the company.
