The Wrexham University Active Learning Framework (ALF) is a set of principles for teaching and learning. These principles guide the University’s approaches to the content, delivery, and assessment of modules, as well as how it supports and engages with students. The ALF is based on the following three principles designed to enable students to actively engage in their learning.

1. Flexible and accessible learning – learning activities can be appropriately and inclusively accessed by anyone who needs to, including those with specific learning needs.
2. Student engagement – learning activities support active and creative student engagement and a sense of belonging.
3. Innovative, flexible and accessible assessment – a range of ways for students to demonstrate learning and understanding.

Once the results confirmed by the Assessment Board are received, students may submit an appeal form, along with any supporting evidence (if available), via email to AcademicAppeals@wrexham.ac.uk. Students may submit an appeal based on the following grounds:

1. Procedural errors or irregularities: There were procedural errors or irregularities during the recording, transcription and/or reporting of results.
2. Defects/irregularities in the application of the Academic Regulations: There were defects/irregularities in the application of the Academic Regulations, which may have negatively impacted on the recorded outcome.
3. Bias or perception of bias.
4. Extenuating circumstances: You had extenuating circumstances (e.g. illness) which may have adversely affected your performance and there is good reason, supported by evidence why you did not submit a claim within the timescales set out in the Extenuating Circumstances Procedure, prior to the Assessment Board.

Academic integrity is fundamental to ensuring the standards, quality, and reputation of any qualifications you gain and for the UK higher education sector. Students should make correct use of Harvard referencing, clearly listing the sources of all references and citations used.

The following are all academic misconducts:

1. Contracting with a third party to write a piece of work
2. Inappropriate use of Artificial Intelligence sites, applications and tools (For guidelines on the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), please visit the website)
3. Collusion
4. Fabrication of data
5. Failure to obtain appropriate permission to conduct research
6. Submission of false evidence of Extenuating Circumstances
7. Any action leading to the student gaining an unfair advantage

Any suspected cases of academic misconduct will be investigated, and if confirmed, penalties will be imposed in accordance with the University regulations. For further details, please visit the University’s website.

Students can always raise initial concerns through various feedback channels, including the Student Voice Forum, the Student Representative System, and the UnitU feedback tool. Additionally, students may discuss their concerns informally with their Module Leader, or the Local Secretariat.
