Wrexham University traces its origins to 1887, with the founding of the Wrexham School of Science and Art. It later evolved into the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI), which became a full member of the University of Wales in 2004. In 2008, NEWI was awarded university status and renamed Glyndŵr University, in honour of the last native-born Welshman to hold the title of Prince of Wales. After Wrexham became Wales’ newest city in 2022, the University was renamed Wrexham University in 2023 to reflect its unique position and international perspective.
